Muse of the Moment: Charo Ronquillo She was just 17 when Charo won the Ford Supermodel of the World Philippines. She then went on to compete in the World Finals the year after, bagging third place. Since then, Charo has been living in New York City, where she has gotten numerous projects including walking in the NYFW shows of Tory Burch, Sisley and BCBG among others. I was fortunate enough to have worked with Charo while I was still in Mega. She was one of the three supermodels who graced our June cover and the shoot was one of the most seamless, easiest I’ve been in. Charo is just stunningly beautiful. The soft look that she naturally projects turns into a strong statement by the mere adjustment of her stare’s intensity. There is a certain confidence, probably due to NYC, even when Charo is off-camera — She moves effortlessly, talks candidly; her smile can make even the coldest heart melt.

Muse of the Moment While the international modeling arena has always been dominated by westerners, a new group of supermodels has begun to make waves. Leading the Asian pack is my current favorite Liu Wen, the first East Asian model to grace the Victoria’s Secret catwalk and the new global ambassador of luxury beauty brand Estée Lauder. Her striking Chinese features combined with a strong sense of professionalism (a quality of hers that industry insiders find commendable) make Liu Wen a fashion powerhouse - at only 23, she is considered the most successful model in China. What I love about her the most is that she can transform into different characters, depending on what the editorial calls for, yet can still manage to project a look that’s uniquely her own. I find all of her photos very strong, so much so that I had a hard time choosing which ones to put up. Haay, I wish I could shoot a beauty editorial with her someday! (Dream big daw eh.) ♥
